One of the greatest influences on the medium of comics. He was never one of my favorites when it came to writing, but the things that he managed to accomplish and help create in the industry are without equal.

Very sad. It also makes me scared. My dad is just two years younger than him.

Len Wein got my favorite writer, Alan Moore, into American comics. The story goes that he called Moore to offer the job at DC, and Moore thought it was a prank call and hung up on him!

I haven't read his Marvel Wolverine/X-Men books since I was a kid, but I remember really liking that first Wolverine story. His original Wolverine was so scrappy. In the last few years, I read and re-read his original Swamp Thing with Bernie Wrightson. It's just great, classic comic horror.

Even if I've never read a LOT of books written by him, it's pretty clear Len Wein was a huge part of the reason I (and most everybody else, I suspect) enjoy comics as much as we do.
