I've been thinking about which writers are my favorite in the industry
Right now I'm digging Ed Brubaker a ton. He doesn't have any misfires that I've read.
Dan Abnett/Andy Lanning are also consistently great.
Johnathen Hickman seems pretty great as well. He seems to really enjoy having a long story thread weave through out his shorter arcs.

I know people are upset with some of his current story lines, but I still like Bendis, and Clearmont for a while till he ran out of stories for X-Men and started getting ridiculous.

If you're crazy and from the UK, chances are I dig your work. Alan Moore, Ennis. Giffen and DeMatteis. Brian K. Vaughan. Whedon?

I can't stand Claremont, I respect the role he played in the industry, but even his "back in the day" stuff is unreadable to me.
Jeph Loeb wrote enough fantastic stuff to be considered but his recent stuff has been uniformly poor.

Whedon is crazy and but is he from the UK?

Maybe Claremont is nostalgia for me. I will soon get to his stuff and re-read it. I wonder if it will hold up to my memory as a kid?

Well, I hope you do find a bit of nostalgia in it because youve gotna shit ton of it to read!
Didn't he write x-men for 10 years or something? Ugh. Enjoy!

Way more than 10, 1975 to 1991 on Uncanny (issues 96-279 uninterrupted) followed by the first 3 issues of New X-Men while also starting New Mutants, X-Factor, Excalibur, Classic X-Men and Wolverine. His stuff is classic and still digestible, but most of his work from when he returned in 2000 and 2004 on really sucks and kind of tarnishes his original run if you read the newer stuff first since it doesn't work at all. The Neo? Bogan? Dear God are those some terrible arcs.

As for favorites right now I'd have to say Mike Carey (another crazy Brit) is it for me right now. Going to expanding my Marvel horizons so maybe more will come into play. One I am excited for would be Nick Spencer. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents at DC was amazing and he'll be writing the new Ultimate X-Men.

No love for Grant Morrison? And what about Smilin' Stan Lee?

I'll second the mentions for Hickman, Moore and Brubaker.

I've just started reading Claremont's 70s run on X-Men for the first time. Liking it so far (also REALLY enjoyed Len Wein's efforts on Giant X-Men #1!).

I'll also add Denny O'Neil, Pat Mills, John Wagner, Alan Grant and Warren Ellis (mostly for Transmetropolitan) into the mix for good measure.

Probably forgotten loads of other greats.

I do remember enjoying a lot of Denny O'Neil doing Batman family stuff. Wasn't he writing Batman, Robin and Catwoman at one point?

Not a fan of Grant Morrison. He is not as good as he thinks he is. His recent stuff hasn't even been fun to read.

Sorry didn't mean all my picks were crazy UK dudes. I love Transmet, Mr Antman.
