Ok, that is a plausible (in comic book physics I mean) explanation.

I've had the same proportionate strength questions.

Did Reed or Pym create the unstable molecule fabric? Both have it, but at least in the first fifty-something issues that I've read, it never mentions them meeting.

It seems like the way it reads, they were created independently.

Unstable molecules are one of the most standard materials in the Marvel Universe. You can always buy a quarter for 1.25 $ at the market.

You can buy a quarter for $1.25? Sounds like the real world economy. haha

The thing that really bugs me in the Tales to Astonish Ant-Man stories is how Pym never thinks outside the box ... if I was Pym and some weak old man like Egghead had me cornered in some lab and was threatening me with an ant-eater, I'd just revert to normal size and punch him. Pym is pretty ripped the way Don Heck draws him, he could probably take most of the lame villains they throw at him if he just never shrunk to Ant-Man size in the first place.

And that's why he has super strength as Giant Man: he's absolutely ridiculous as Ant-Man.

Can't argue with any of that.

I do agree with your points, but I don't think shrinking is a bad power. I just think it's poorly implemented in the Ant-Man comics.

I haven't really read much of new Ant-Man stuff, but the fact that it's still going says something. As I understand it, Irredeemable Ant-Man was pretty cool.

Also, the stuff I've read of Atom in DC comics made him seem really badass.
