So marvel is hyping this new X-Men vs Avengers event. I saw one thing as the most exciting story arc ever.

Am I wrong, or has this story been done like a lot of times before?

Apparently I am not the only one to think this is all deja vu. Editor Eric Stephenson posted the same thing on his blog. Here is an article about that.

Eh, I'm not getting down on them for going back to this well. The original X-Men vs Avengers was a long time ago, and not a memorable event. Plus, it's a logical place to go ... both teams are "good guys", but they both have very different priorities, and they could be written into opposite corners without jumping through too many hoops.

I guess it could feel like a rehash of Civil War, but if the premise is good enough it will still work.

Civil War always struck me as kind of avoiding the X-teams, probably since the super hero registration was just a rehash of mutant registration. So I can see this more as the two big kids on the block fighting over a dumb character. With that said I'd say I am officially on event fatigue with Marvel, and DC a little too. But mostly the X-Men. I've been reading X-Men titles since 1989 and the amount of x-overs and events is getting out of hand. Look at it this way, during the Morrison era (2001-2004) there were none. This will be what looks like the 16th x-related event since then with most of them sucking. It's the 90's glut without the gems like X-Tinction Agenda, Phalanx Covenant or Age of Apocalypse. Some have been on or about the same level, but mostly they've sucked.

Not sure what youre talking about. I think the X-Events of late have been top notch, Schism excepted.

Outside of Messiah War/Complex and Age of X they have been ass. Decimation? Deadly Genesis? Endangered Species? Second Coming? Curse of the Mutants? Divided We Stand? Necrosha? And that isn't even counting the line wide events like Civil War and House of M (I've voiced my hatred of HoM before). You're gold standards are X-Tinction Agenda and Age of Apocalypse. None of these come close to those two. I know that is unrealistic but in the grand scheme of things most of the events of the last 8 years fall near the bottom of X-events in terms of quality.

As for Regenesis, so far what I've read has been a mixed bag. Wolverine and the X-Men was good with some reservations while Uncanny was downright shit. Like nearing Chuck Austen levels of it. X-Factor and X-Force haven't gotten there yet, I've yet to read X-Men and New Mutants and I am pretty sure Legacy is going the way of the Dodo after Carey leaves.

I don't really think of most of those as events... Endangered Species was a series of back ups.
Deadly Genesis, I didn't hate, but is part of Decimation and at least lead to some great DnA space stories. Decimation was good, excepting many of the minis. I liked how they handled it in X-Men, but things like Sentinal Squad ONE blew.
I'll give you Curse of the Mutants. That seemed poorly conceived.
I loved Second Coming.
Necrosha wasn't horrid, but the art was a little dark.
Divided we Stand wasn't event, more of a branding, like Manifest Destiny.

So there. :P

I just realized that there was a FF vs X-Men arc the same time as the original XvA event in the 80's.....I am wondering if they are going to ape something like this like they did with XvA.

Also, man, do the X-Men end up fighting like every other group in the Marvel universe.
