Reading through the Dr. Strange stories he kind of reminds me of playing with friends as a kid...:

Friend: I shoot you with my gun
Me: I had a force field up!
Friend: I shoot you with a force field destroying gun!
Me: I distorted your aim to miss me!
etc...

I can't agree more. Its one of the things that bugs me about the title. The last minute ... Ohh I have this spell that will work ... is crazy.

"I have trapped you with a special Dr. Strange unbreakable cell magic that I just invented and hasn't ever been done"

"Ohh, I just remembered I have the Horgoth Dr. Strange unbreakable cell breaker spell made for magic that was just invented"

huh, isn't that convenient.

Don't get the Dr. Strange hate at all. I think he's great, even the early stuff.

Man, normally I am right there with you, but Strange bugs me. Most the stories come off as just silly to me (ok, not as bad as he Torch solo stuff or some sub-mariner, but still bad), and that new costume....sweet jeasus.

Oh, yeah, the new costume was awful. It didn't last long though.

We disagree in other places too. ;) I've seen you mention Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD a fair few times and I dislike almost all of those (Except a couple of Steranko ones) I think in some cases with Doctor Strange I am just biased towards the character. There is just something about him I really like. However, there was a particular run in Strange Tales that is one of the standout story arcs of the 60s for me. Also one of the longest early stories, I believe.

It was Strange Tales #130-146. I really enjoyed that.

I think the Tribunal was just after it. It's the arc where Baron Mordo teams up with Dormammu and Dr. Strange has to go into hiding while trying to seek the power to fight against them. He has to track down "Eternity" who tells him he already has the power to defeat Dormammu and then ultimately he meets him in a duel and wins.

That arc was pretty good, and I am not hating on Dr. Strange as a character, I just hate how the early writers wrote a lot of his stories where even if he is shot with something he magically (yes I meant it!) has a spell to protect him. Honestly, I think that this happened a lot in the 60's stories for Marvel, it just seems to be happening an abundantly more in the Dr. Strange stories, and I have especially noticed it more so after the Tribunal arc.

Ehh, at the moment I AM a Dr. Strange hater. It isn't my least favorite title, but it is pretty darn close. I am hoping it gets better.
