The new trailer was just released.

I'm pretty torn about this movie. As we've discussed, I don't know that the origin needs to be retold, and I definitely am not cool with messing with his costume, but I like the actors, and the action looks all right.

I don't like the characterization of Dr. Connors as apparently evil (or am I the only one getting that?), and I don't like that it looks like the big end battle sequence will all be done with his mask off ... look, Hollywood, we get it, you don't think audiences will connect with a character who's wearing a mask. You're wrong, get over it. It's just so distracting to see Spider-Man without his mask, and yet it inevitably happens.

I think it looks sick. There is that one shot where It seems like Gwen might figure out that Peter is Spider-Man, which would be lame, and I'm not sure how I feel about a young George Stacy serving as an ersatz JJJ with his anti Spider-Man crusade.
As to your thoughts on the Lizard's characterization, I agree an evil Conners would be disappointing. However, the Lizard works as a villain because when Conners is the Lizard he has a distinct, evil personality, but more importantly he is articulate. From the brief clips it seems like the lizard may not be articulate in the film (and let's be honest, having a giant cgi lizard that speakssss might come off as a bit goofy). If that's the case, then having Conners start out as good but then slowly degenerate over the course of the film before finally being overcome by his bestial nature could be an effective alternative, if it's handled well.

It looks like it could be pretty good. Since I hate Tobey Maguire, I am all for the idea of a new Spider-Man, though I'm not sure I buy this new guy too much either. I really don't like the idea of Captain Stacy being a prick, and yeah as you mentioned it looks like they might be making out Conner's to be a bit of a bad guy.

Then again, I don't mind a bit of artistic license. If the story stands up well then I'll appreciate it, whether or not it stays true to Marvel canon.

Didn't watch yet...
Do they have anything to suggest they could possibly top Spidey vs. Doc Ock from the second film. That's probably my favorite comic book movie moment!

Two words: "Meh"
Man, I hope The Avengers is good, cuz this is gonna be cheezy. I did, however say First Class would suck, and I was very wrong about that. But it did have The Baconator....
I love Denis Leary, but I hate that chick who plays Gwen, cuz my wife made me watch "Easy A" and I thought I was going to have to gouge out my eyes!

First...Baconator. That sounds like possible the most awesome invention ever. "This sandwhich was no good until I zapped used my new gadget. Thanks Baconator"

Second, to DOOM...Maybe I am wrong, but I find it doubtful they will do Doc Ock again...Of course, I would have said the same thing about redoing the origin story.

I didn't mean to suggest that they would redo Doc Ock. Only that it is the high water mark for Spider-Man movies in particular and superhero comic book movies in general.
Do they have anything that suggests it can live up to that fight in the trailer?

There're some cool action sequences in the trailer; they have Spider-Man's fighting style feeling very Jet Li-ish for lack of a better term. And that's cool in my book. As far as whether or not it'll top Spider-Man 2, I'm sure we won't know until the movie comes out.

Good point about X-Men First Class. The trailers for that film felt very "meh" to me, but I think we can all agree that that movie rocked. With ASM, if it's great, I'll be pleasantly surprised; if it sucks, I won't be disappointed because my hopes aren't high.

The Raimi Spider-Man movies were good movies, but didn't do it for me when comparing them to the comics. This trailer makes AMS look truer to the comics, and overall a better direction than the original SM movies. I think this movie will be great. I love Lizard as a villain, and everything I've seen says to me they are making a golden movie. I'm glad they didn't do another Raimi/Maguire movie. This will be better, and it should make a worthy reboot.
