Issue Review

Namor - Namor is an interesting guy, and this issue does a nice joy of showcasing what makes him different from other Marvel heroes.
Human Torch - Rather than being just another dumb hero vs hero fight, this one makes sense. AND Johnny actually extends the hand of friendship first... before Namor gets aggressive. Namorís personality is such that he is prone to hero vs hero fights :)
Villains - The villains have a fairly loopy plan involving a giant fish-monster. Right.

7/10

While this whole run of the persecuted, mourning, bitter Namor, torn between homes should not last forever without some form of resolve, I am enjoying his character quite a lot now. It added a much-needed sense of tragedy and powerlessness (you can only save Atlantis so many times, before you turn into the guy who is always there to save the moment).

Hey Johnny, I'm not sure what they would call it in NYC, but if you burn some guy's beard off in Boston, I'm pretty sure they call it assault and battery.

Johnny doing that lame fire shaving trick to that hippy really hammers home what ana**he is.

I understand that Namor is actually trying to do the peaceful good-guy thing now, but after you attack and invade a few times, you can't be surprised that people aren't happy and trusting when they see you.
I love that Namor's apparently been looking for his pops for weeks with no luck, and Stingray just walks over to the guy's house.
I actually found Torch to be less of a jerk in this than he has been in the FF mag, but still a big jerk.

I'm totally distracted from a pretty good story by the fact that all cops in the Marvel universe are complete a**holes. Ugh

2 stars for Johnny ruining Krago's big day!!!

Credit Due - Man, there are a lot coloring mistakes in this issue!!

Foghorn - Arrr...I remember when Cap'n Leonard Mackenzie used to spell his last name as McKenzie!!

Spoiled - I take it, Charlie and his friend were born into money and inbreeding....

Straight Laced - I'm with Johnny on hating those damn dirty hippies!!

Lymondo - Since when did Tiger Shark get a lackey??

Seaweed - I think I know which special herb Namor used on Krago in the past...

3rd Degree - Uh, Johnny when you flew off with Diane. You forgot to flame off your arm that is holding her!!!

'Nuff Said - "You call this a well-structured plan?"-Tiger Shark

It's cool that the Torch and Namor didn't fight just for the sake of fighting, and actually worked together - though Todd and Llyra's plan was ridiculous! Two water-based villains who have enough power to challenge Namor directly, instead summon a huge fish that is easily defeated and fly about in a fragile airship when they could have just stayed in the water!

You'd think that at some point in the last 30 years McKenzie would have puzzled out that the half-Atlantean/half-human prince running around just *might* be connected to the Atlantean princess he married.

Why do a sea dwelling race have an airship? It's not like Lemuria has been making much contact with the surface world, so why build an airship? That'd be like Red Raven's people making a submarine.

Kudos to Gerry Conway for advancing this important sub-plot involving Capt. McKenzie. It took a few months of oddball story arcs and Namor wallowing in the misery caused by decisions he made, but we're on the right track.

Also liked Johnny Storm guest starring. At least he's attempting to do something for himself since Crystal left, instead of whining and acting like a jerkwad. Their battle with each other, and subsequent team-up, was indeed reminiscent of the 40's Torch/Namor stories.

Not really liking the Tiger Shark/Llyra team-up so far. I'm with the others who wondered about that airship they're using when they're both mainly water-borne now. Now that's just silly of them!

3 stars. Hey, how many cans of tuna do you think Krago would fill?

I question Namor's ability to objectively reflect on himself and his past actions. Of course, he's not going to get a warm reception on land. How often has he attacked the "cursed surface-dwellers," and how much damage has he caused to NYC over the decades? You don't get to just declare: "I'm now a member of the human race; you must accept me and love me." We humans are stupid, but not stupid enough to believe that.

This was a huge improvement over the last few issues. Did Conway take writing lessons in the last month?
