#110 has a great What-Is-Going-On? battle at X-Men Mansion. And a pretty good pay-off. Also: great soap opera scenes.

It ties in with (or refers to) contemporary events in Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Captain America. 8/10

The savage breasts of the savage beasts! This is pretty enjoyable stuff. After 6 years of RT mediocrity the Avengers has turned into an enjoyable comic book. The Englehart of the '70s is definitely better than the Englehart that I remember reading in the '80s. His Avengers are mush better than Roy Thomas' and his Captain Americas better than Lee's.

Good story but Don Heck's art is terrible. Especially the eyes in the first few pages.

Enjoyable first part to this storyline. Got a reminder of what a schmuck Pietro is in the opening pages.

Pietro is such a little twit. I found him more repulsive than Magneto this issue.

Ah the good old days when the Avengers worried about not having enough members...

That was a good issue, albeit with a deceptive cover. It's interesting to see all these unfamiliar characters and their unique personalities. It gives me something to look forward to when I come back and read the rest.

Pietro is a real dick. I mean, wow. And Magneto in Angel's costume looks completely silly.

Lots of art mistakes in this one. When we first see "Angel" there are no wings attached, and they forgot to give poor Crystal a nose! Those dinos are ridiculous, I mean the triceratops doesn't have a single horn! Cerebro looked like a mess, hard to figure out what it was supposed to be doing. Nobody seems to wonder where the real Angel is either.
I was happy to see Cap support Wanda, and basically tell her that Pietro was just being a dick.

Excellent writing - Englehart is doing a really good job making the Marvel Universe feel integrated, with so many interactions across different titles. I particularly liked the scene where Thor and Iron Man (and Cap in a way) reflect on their past romantic relationships in light of Wanda and the Vision.

But man, Don Heck's artwork. Yikes.

Terrible artwork, but a good enough build to the story that I was ignoring the art by the end.

OK, I can accept dinosaurs when they're in the Savage Land, but as soon as they appear outside of it they become too silly.

Why did Magneto disguise himself? What was the plan there?

It should've been 4 stars, but I'm giving it 3 for Piper trying to hock his pan flute 8tracks on the Avengers!!!

Cover Me - The X-Men are in their old uniforms!!!

Credit Due - I've always been a fan of Don Heck, but since his return on the Avengers, it has been rough!!

Douchey - I really hate how they turned Pietro from just being arrogant into a bigger jerk than even Hawkeye!!

Big Black Book - It would've been better if it took an whole page for Stark to list all of his past loves!!!

Yard Birds - Wow! It didn't take them long to find the X-Mansion. Must have been all those dinosaurs running around the yard...

Logistics - @duncanm & cdolphy: And just what did happen to Angel?? Also, how did Magneto get the dinosaurs to New York from the Savage Land? Plus the dinos are now free to roam Westchester!!!

'Nuff Said - "No sister of mine may become involved with a--a--a robot!"-Quirky Quicksilver

Things usually get pretty electric whenever the Avengers and the X-Men meet in any era. It would serve that not many of the Avengers would recognize Professor X since he was "dead" the last time the two teams met.

A few other notes....

Recommended listening for this story: We're gonna go disco on this one, namely the Tavares' "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" in honor of our AWOL mutant, Warren Worthington III.

Sub-Urban Camouflage: The "long-hidden" X-Men live in a high-profile-looking mansion in Westchester. Well, it IS more private than Central Park, at least.

Contempt Breeds Familiarity: Anyone reading the X-Men in early 1973 would be reading the reprints; X-Men #81 reprinted X-Men #33, June 1967. The X-Men at the time were still in their school uniforms. I think that's the explanation as to why they're in those uniforms on the cover here, to not confuse readers (at least not too much!)

City Pet Ordinance: wouldn't the neighbors have complained to the police about those dinosaurs on the lawn of the X-Mansion?

Time's "Man of the Year" Award Competition: Who will win this year? Will it be Peitro Maximoff, who disowned his sister due to her choice of a boyfriend? Or will it be Clint "Hawkeye" Barton, who plans to stalk his ex-girlfriend and her new beau?

Big Brother is Watching Us All: I had no idea the Avengers had drones!

3 stars. One can almost look forward to reading an issue of Daredevil for the continuation of this story. Well, almost.

I wonder what Pietro's problem with Wanda and the Vision is, it really hasn't been explained yet. Does he just really want to be an uncle or something?

I always have a problem whenever they use dinosaurs in these stories. The errors always annoy me like the Ceratops being called a Triceratops and being given sharp teeth.

Still, I liked Cap's advice to Wanda. It was probably the smartest thing said in the whole issue.

two stars
