Issue Review

#12 is Hulk-heavy (just the way I like it) and has one of those "mysterious small town" stories I enjoy so much.

As much as I love it when The Hulk goes into action (and I do love it), I have to say it's just as cool seeing Doctor Strange and Valkyrie go undercover to investigate the small town near where Hulk disappeared. 7/10

Boy, do I hate Xemnu. Shut up about your home planet, already!

Dumb comic uses the word dumb a dumb lot.

Not so sure about this "psychic link" between Hulk and the Doc. That's pretty lame.

  Drax Says:

Hulk redeems that bland issue all alone.

Xemnu really does suck. His plots are all needlessly evil.

Hulk is hilarious in this issue! I wonder if that stranger was Drax...

I like that the Hulk has basically decided that Strange's name is Dumb Magician. And he will call him that no matter what, whether he's asking him for help or calling him friend.
Also like that Strange was nice and somewhat respectful to the Hulk in this issue, because he's been a jerk for most of the time they've been together.

I saw Titan on the cover and thought this would be a Thanos tie-in, and instead got this. I'm not sure anyone at Marvel knows the definition of necromancy.
This was a very 60's style issue. I hope I can stop writing that at some point.

I really liked the last couple of panels in this ish. 3 Stars!

  - What a great first page with a pastoral Hulk happily picking posies with an evil tree tip-toeing up behind him

- I will now refer to Dr. Strange as the “Dumb Magician” from now on

- Dumb Magician was actually gracious and polite to The Hulk for once

- Hulk thinks Thesaurus is dumb and it is also dumb

- Now Playing “Amos Moses” Jerry Reed

  Russ Says:

Filler issue, really. Xemnu is nothing more than a Professor X clone who just needs his back shaved. An uncrupulous monster with psychic powers should make for a much more formidable foe than these lame plots we're seeing. Apparently Marvel isn't taking Xemnu very seriously.

2 stars. Have to give props to Gerber for that first page though. Give the Hulk some longer hair, love beads, and a guitar and have him audition for the Grateful Dead!

The Defenders wouldn't be very interesting if it weren't for Hulk.

I don't know, I always had a soft spot for the big ol' fluff ball! I agree with Russ, they really don't know what to do with Xemnu yet. He should've had no problem mentally stopping the Hulk?!

Len was one of my favorite Hulk writers up until John Byrne took over. It's good to see that he employs older jade jaws to keep this title readable.

Is this the first superhero friendship hulk has had that made it past the end of an issue? Essential issue.
