Case-of-the-week is a seemingly unbeatable foe (that's always nice) and there's lots of mystery surrounding newest Avenger.
Loved the John Buscema/Dave Cockrum art!
9/10

Nice upgrade in art for this issue. Big John rules!

I was a little disappointed with the end (mainly because Vision or Thor really could of zapped him at any given time) but it was still an enjoyable book.

It bothers me that Mantis' speech patterns change when she thinks things. For example she will use terms like "this one" instead of "I" when speaking, but not when thinking.

  cotter2 Says:
  2015-03-16 02:33:48
A correction, she goes back and forth when thinking, which is even more inconsistent than if she were to use one or the other.

The ending... Way too convenient. Could have gone on longer with more plot.

-1 star for the heat weakness.

So star power cannot hurt the Star Stalker, but solar power can. Um...the sun is a star...
And he was MUCH bigger at the end of last issue.
I continue to enjoy the character beats with Swordy.

Felt rushed to wrap up the storyline, but not sure for what? Maybe this arc wasn't selling well?

I don't know what was up with that Star Stalker, basically an alien dragon. But it's powers and weaknesses were way inconsistent in this story, and if solar energy from the Vision could dispatch it, it should've also fallen to Iron Man's repulsor rays in their first confrontation. I'm callin' shenanigans!

And I'm also liking the turn in characterization of the Swordsman as well. Over his past several appearances he's becoming more complex character. I think it'd be a smack to his pride, though, that the Avengers took care of his former boss instead of them allowing him a final showdown.

2 stars. Not a great finish to the Zodiac arc, but it was going to take a lot to rescue it anyway. It did have some good stuff, at least.

2 stars. I love Iron Man fixing the Star-Blaster by blasting it!!!

What the... what is a thyroid flashlight? I checked with both a physician and Google and neither authority could tell me why Englehart would call the Star-Blaster a "thyroid flashlight".

What word did he think he was using...?

I guess thyroid sounds a bit futuristic... maybe (?). Get your mind out of the Mantis, Englehart!

Just in case your looking for it, it's referred to as such by one of the two shield agents dropping it off for the Avengers.

  Marksman Says:

So what's with Mantis' hair anyway? Is she aware that she has two antennae cowlicks going on or is this part of "this one's" mystery?

  JonahBlack Says:

Another disappointing issue of Mantis and friends. I really disliked the star stalkers design, but that might be primarily because he looked really great as a plain dragon at the end of last issue (and, really, the opening page of this one). I've never liked the bipedal dragon-oid look (sorry, Fin Fang Foom!)

The bigger thing that bothered me was this was another instance of the Avengers being useless and Mantis saving the day. I feel like I'm being told I should care about this character, but not actually being made to care about her.

I'm tempted to give this one star, but the story wouldn't be too bad if it was about a different group of characters where Mantis was the strongest (I'm thinking like Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Strange pacing, the alien takes a nap, in the middle of the fight?!

Also, every time I see the word "ionic" it reminds me of the Uncanny X-cast's running joke about Count Nefaria.
