Blacked out text can be read by highlighting that section.

  Redsvetz Says:

Ridiculous line of the book: "Inexplicable? That's the kind of word we've been waiting for! It can't be just a coincidence! Let's move out!"

El Tigre is cheap he has Jean's power and prof. X

  Mr. M. Says:
  2012-07-25 06:13:52
Roy did it again. I mean weak story. He can't feel the X-Men and has terrible ideas when creating bad guys.

  Daredevil Says:
  2012-11-23 06:24:44
I can certainly see why the X-Men weren't very popular

  Webslinger Says:
  2012-12-25 23:38:07
Cerebro is a complete non sense as of now. But Jean is majoring in psychology, at least this point they got it right.

At this point I'm just reading the interaction between the X-men and skipping all the panels where the villain shows up.

  leisch Says:

Another trio of worthless villains. It seems to be a Marvel staple in this era.

At The Gates of Dawn Says:

El Tigre! One of the worst villains I have ever read in comics history! Why in the world is this disaster story a two-parter!? Like before, the plot is boring and generic. Roy is destroying the X-Men's popularity with every new issue

So...if Xavier can walk using the braces, why is still crying like a little girl about not being able to walk?

Also...what exactly were all those children doing on the roof of the orphanage?

Absolutely stultifying. At one point reading this I wanted to make fun of the guy wearing a sombrero in New York, but now by the end I find I am just apathetic about the whole thing. I need a drink.

This story was horrible and extremely boring. I finally forced myself to finish it. I hope the second part to this story is better. This is trash.

Just 1 star for El' Tigre. I remember as a kid reading this issue and thinking what a stinker! Even today it still pisses me off!! The X-Men are mutants....they're GODDAMN MUTANTS!!! The Teen Brigade could've done a better job!!!!

'Nuff Said - "Curse? Bah...what care I for ancient superstitions...the tales of old wives?"-El' Tigre

  GroovyGolem Says:

I actually sort of liked this issue. I at least liked the brief diversion of El Tigre's "origin" story.

And I admit, I was wrong about betting that we'd never see Xavier's mechanical legs again.

Also, I think this issue has the most blatantly racist line we've seen in the order yet, spoken by blonde-haired blue-eyed Warren Worthington: "If those bushy baboons have harmed him, I'll make them wish they'd never left the jumping-bean farm!"

  edgar987 Says:

  derelictherds Says:
  2016-01-23 16:25:20
Oh, Roy. Why do you have to write so much stuff? I've been aware of the over-wordy issues but when I stopped and thought about it on the last page, it was painful. In panel 2, for example: "The pendant is changing me... Transforming me... But... Into whom? Into... What?" Come on, you are transforming for god's sake, just shut up. Also the first balloon is completely unnecessary in the last panel. Maybe if somebody checked these stories and omitted half of these stupid balloons, these stories wouldn't have been so painful.

  skabeaters Says:
  2016-02-11 20:12:06
The list is proving to be too much. I used to read these comics and be so fascinated that five or six people had super powers and were trying to use them for good things. Now that I've been reading all the comics seeing people use their powers is like watching someone do their taxes. Everyone seems to have them and use them and the good guys always win in the end.

  Urgat Says:
  2016-08-17 05:23:01
And again each X-Men is overtaken by some random enemy guy...but this time...the random guys don't have some kind of super-power...they are simple middle-/south-american treasure-hunter helplings! How can the X-Men even get out of the dangeroom alive?

  Judassiah Says:
  2016-10-16 02:45:31
+ Having Marvel Girl off the team makes for a great sub plot. The other mags have done well after developing their supporting characters and I think Roy Thomas did this one thing right.
+ Kukulcan. This could be a cool development. I'm unaware of either an El Tigre or Kukulcan in futures issues, interested to see what future writers do with this.

- Everyone above pretty much cover a lot of the issues here.
- The X-Men all defeated thselves. Stupid mistakes.
- Every time the X-Men come out of the danger room they acknowledge the value of teamwork. Every time they get into a tactical situation they split up before the planning stage starts.
- At the time, the are useless without Professor Xavier.
- The mechanical tentacles. Too convenient and expensive. Where is all this money coming from?
- Cerebro's powers are confusing to me at this stage.

  Judassiah Says:
  2016-10-16 02:46:50
1 star. Fingers crossed that Kukulcan can do the can can. Entertain us Roy Thomas! I have faith in you!

  INVKR Says:
  2017-01-19 01:03:19
The writers seem to have a weird obsession with bolas at this point. These things appeared in every second issue lately and it was not once a good idea!

  chademe Says:
  2017-05-04 19:51:00
So Cyclops's eye beams can break through walls, but he can block them with his hand? Why didn't he just close his eyes? And why would Professor X build giant tentacles into the wall to catch him in case he fell? Maybe a simple handrail would suffice next time. I thought this would be bad as soon as I saw the cover and title, and I was right.

  JonahBlack Says:
  2017-05-11 11:32:37
Why didn't El Tigre just mentally dominate the X-Men, like he did the guard, and, well, everyone? It's possible they mentioned why, but that whole thing was so tedious I kind of checked out, and I can't bear the idea of going back.

  BillG2330 Says:

Oof. These old X-Men stories are terrible.

  • That's my line "What skates would fit these enormous pedal extremities of mine, lad!" (Happy Feet McCoy) You never miss an opportunity to brag about it to the other boys, don't you Hank!

  • No offense to Latino readers, but a villain with a Spanish name never bodes well.

  • It would appear that Xavier's mechanical legs have become a regular thing now. I wonder how long it is going to last. Also the tentacles in the stairs was beyond terrible. Xavier should have invested more time and money in getting these damn legs to work properly.

  • You'd think that with lethal eyes such as his, Scott would have found a way to keep his glasses from accidentally falling off by now. But nope! Never occurred to him!

  • If I were a healthy teenage boy full of hormones, having Professor X popping into my head constantly would totally piss me off!

  • It's pretty hard to swallow that any X-Men would be so easily subdued by nobodies armed with bolos, machetes and blow-guns.

  • Not Ant-Man bad, but not good either. This unmemorable story will get 3 stars, thanks to the artwork and to Warren deciding to move on.

  chrisWhite Says:
  2018-05-27 12:45:12
Where to start with this awful issue?
  • Cyclops' powers are poorly suited for fighting fires, thank God Iceman was there to create one of his instant slides he's always making to get all the kids off the roof so safely and easily.

  • Seriously, metal tentacles in the walls? What other improbable secrets are hidden in the mansion?

  • Really Scott? If you can't just close your eyes wouldn't you have something a little harder to accidently knock off then normal glasses? Also, how do you sleep? With your eyes open and the visor on?

  • Hey Kirby, did all Latinos visiting New York in the 60's dress like that or just the villains?

  • The X-Men outnumbered the villians and two of them were just normal guys, how did they get rolled so easily? It's not like they were up against Thanos or Apocalypse here.

All that said, I'm intrigued by Kukulkan, it would be really interesting to see a pantheon I'm not familiar with in the comics, I'm somehow doubting it turns into anything meaningful.
