Finally a good Cap. I would say, after all that Sleeper jazz this is the least we could expect!! Ok, actually it was really good, has the right tune on the old pals side with an homage to veterans, what a smooth way to to show national pride.

As usual the science makes me want to cry, but the story was fun.

The bad guys are basically just a rehash of the Leader and his androids.

Cap And Shield are a natural fit. I hope to see more of them working together.

The android can mix chemicals to electrify itself or to make Uranium! Are we sure it's not using magnets?

So all this time cap has been secretly waiting to get the call to go to SHIELD and then he finally gets it, and he turns it down!? Seriously?! That was like his dream at this point....... He better stop whinning about it now.......

Although it overlaps a little in concept with Fury's other archfoes at HYDRA, the idea of a nefarious group of dominion-plotting mad scientists is pretty darn useful for the Marvel universe -- just when you think you've foiled one completely bizarre science-scheme, up pops another one! Clearly another catch-all wellspring for various kooky kirybisms, including the amazing (though scientifically ludicrous) design of the chemical android in this issue. It has tanks on its chest to mix chemicals?! What! It's silly but great, and definitely one of the first foreshadowings of Kirby's Project Cadmus weirdness from his work at DC in the 70s.

They made the Fury-Cap meeting kind of corny by throwing in an unnecessary fight with in android.
This could have been so much better if they just would have talked and maybe reminisced about old times.
The last panel was a nice touch.

Glad Cap is back in teh modern era. An occasional flashback story is aa welcome chaneg of pace, but as a regular feature it wore out it's welcome pretty quickly.

A group of mad scientists that don't understand science. Brilliant, Stan. Just F-ing brilliant. The story was great nonetheless... The lack of accurate scientific knowledge (like mixing chemicals to make electricity bolts) brings it down to 3 stars.

4 stars for the 1st real app of AIM in all of their wastebasket headed glory!!!

THEM - Dang....I was hoping they would of been giant ants....

Small Minded - The mini-brain makes my brain hurt...

Chain Reaction - Good thing the Android had a mouth opening for Fury to put the pill into. I'd hate to see Fury go for the suppository route!!!

'Nuff Said - "URRUGHHH!"-Chemical Android

Poor Cap... he helps his hero Nick Fury kick android butt only to have Fury make wisecracks about his "corny playsuit" that he "romps around in."

A backhanded compliment... delivered with a karate chop!

I was very disappointed that they didn't continue the Agent 13/Peggy Carter story line that was hinted at for the last 3 issues.

It feels like ages since Captain first started talking about joining up with Shield, finally some resolution. Pretty sweet pin he got too, wouldn't mind having a replica.

If the villain wasn't so lame this would have gotten a 4 star.

  Russ Says:

I liked this issue. It was a good slam-bang story and Cap and Nick make a great organic team.

AIM wasn't known as "Them" for very long. I think Van Morrison must've threatened 'em with a law suit (courtesy of the obscure '60's musical references department). I wonder what it stood for, anyway. "Tyrannically Holistic Evil Mechanics"? Naah, even Stan would consider that too corny.

3 stars. The preliminaries are over. Time for the Crimson Cranium to take his bow.

I was thinking the same thing with all of the "THEM" stuff. That's my grandfather's favorite old sci-fi movie, meaning that I've watched it several times.

  RobinHoodMtl Says:

  • That's my line "...we must continue to wear these ornate trappings, to strike fear and dread into the hearts of those who serve us... and those who oppose us, alike!" (THEM beekeeper) Well, sorry, but they do not strike me as the most fear-striking outfits.

  • That frigi-defense circuit is a cornball idea, but I found it kinda cool (no pun intended!)

  • That chemical android's design was nice as well. Too bad we won't be seeing it again.

  • I guess this may be the first time that SHIELD expresses that it has supreme authority over the Avengers, which kind of sets the grounds for any further relationship.

  • Too bad Fury did not mention whether or not he read that letter from Cap before it was stolen by Hydra.

  • This series is slowly but steadily getting better. Like that Iron Man-Sub-Mariner crossover recently, I love that SHIELD's storyline overflows on other titles like this one or Iron Man's series. That meeting between Cap and Fury was overdue. And I was not disappointed. 4 stars for one of the best Cap solo stories so far.
