  Kez Says:

In this era, there's tonnes of misunderstandings like the ones in this issue. Like:
"Hey guys, can we talk!"
"Hey look it's , ATTAAACK!"
"The fools!" -responds with violence-

This one is slightly more believable but in general I think it's pretty cheesy. Even more so when it's between heroes.

  Redsvetz Says:
  2011-12-17 14:21:34
Talking ants are ridiculous. The decision to have Hank use his Ant-Man powers again is questionable at best. Looking forward to a Pym-free comic in upcoming issues. @Kez. Love those British spellings. My personal fave is "tyres"

  rubixcube60 Says:
  2012-09-10 22:06:26
Since when can the ants actually speak english to Ant Man?

  zweineuf Says:
  2012-09-23 01:21:31
@Rubixcube: The ants were represented as speaking English a couple times in Astonish ... of course a lot of people skip those issues though, lol.

  skalchemist Says:
  2013-07-09 07:43:55
Magneto and the Toad just make my teeth grind in these early issues. Ian McKellen and Ray Park they ain't.

  leisch Says:
  2013-08-15 08:56:02
How did Ant Man and the ants make it across the roulette table unseen?
"I'll bet his cute under that helmet." Oh, Jan, you were doing so well until that last panel.

  Raistlin903 Says:
  2014-02-15 02:26:48
apparently there wasn't enough dialogue so now the Ants get to talk too.....

  duncanm Says:
  2014-05-10 20:30:05
So apparently ants talking in perfect english is really creepy. A good thing to know.
The armor clad Black Knight uses the master of magnetism as his first foe. I don't see how this can end well.
"Gee that Black Knight guys is a hot headed jerk! All we did was attack him, and doubt his motivations even after he helped, and he leaves!"
"But he sure is dreamy" "Shuddup Jan"

Color me surprised that Hawkeye jumped the gun and attacked someone trying to help.

  specialque Says:

Man, I hate comics like this. On one hand, I LOVED the talking ants. It's so ridiculous, it reminds me of something out of a 1940s comic. On the other, everytime a superhero has one of those idiotic "misunderstanding" fights with someone who's trying to help them, I can't help but think "this is why people don't trust you masked clowns."

  MattzLadd Says:

I don't know how Mr. Desalvio has two mouths, but I think I'll just go with it.

3 stars for the 1st app of Black Knight III in costume!!! I wanted to give it more, but I hate the ol' Marvel Misunderstandings! Also, for Hawkeye reverting back into Asshat mode for Hank!!

Cover Me - Great image of the Black Knight about to fly off the cover!!!

Picnic - Like zweineuf said the ants have talked before in Tales to Astonish, but they spoke like Ka-Zar! Must of been all those atomic bomb tests they did near Vegas to make these ants articulate!!! Also, two gamblers did notice the ants on the table...just not the ant wearing the bright yellow & blue costume!!!

The Wasp Dip - I'm not a fan of Tuska's art, but I do like his Wasp! Especially her new Playboy Bunny outfit that changes from pink to red and back to pink!!!

Aliens Among Us - What the hell is on that table behind Hawkeye (p9,p1)???

Tales Of The Black Knights - I like the add on story to Black Knight II living long enough to phone a friend! Also, mentioning the original Black Knight series back in the 50's!!!

Money Shot - What, no love for the Arrowpoon!!?? I would've figured gloomy harvester, AmazingGatorMan, or MattzLadd to beat me to it...

'Nuff Said - "Did I return from my exile in space to be afraid of a group I have never seen?"-Magneto

Wow, Hawkeye's a real A-Hole. And Jan still seems to be interested in every guy that comes along. Man, this took me a couple hours to finally come back to finish it. The 60's was a rough time for comic book enjoyment.

  metsguy Says:
  2015-04-04 12:57:34
  In this issue:
Magneto forgets to take his chill pills!
Janet and Hank try their luck at the roulette wheel in Vegas!
Jarvis answers the phone!
Dane Whitman tells a story!

  MattDog37 Says:

Why is the Black Knight choking up on the Lance like that on the cover?

  Katryn Says:
  2016-05-25 22:49:54
What I've learned from this: when Captain America calls, it's always important, but anyone else and no, we've got time to stop this guy cheating at roulette.

  Katryn Says:
  2016-05-26 07:09:31
Also, the Black Knight moves for no man!

  GroovyGolem Says:

Hawkeye sure has a short memory. He tells Hank "I don't seem to recall Cap leavin' you in charge when he quit us!" But Cap did that very thing in the previous issue, telling Hawkeye "I swore an oath to hold the Avengers together, until one of the original members returned to take over. Well, Goliath is back!" D'oh!. I guess Jan doesn't count either.

And what about Whirlwind? He obviously let Hank and Jan get on the plane to Vegas, and they made it back safe and sound. WHAT IS HIS PLAN??

Jan's outfit was... Interesting in this issue.

As for the ants speaking English, I always assumed those were just the mental emanations coming from the ants being "translated" by Hank's head gear. Like, they're not really speaking English, but the closest translation to what they are thinking is what get's put on the page. As Hank's technology improves, so do the translations!

I wanted to give this a 1-star rating for the Three's Companyesque misunderstanding, but I liked the stuff with the ants so 2 stars.

  Megatof @ GroovyGolem (original post):

"I guess Jan doesn't count either."

That's exactly what I thought back then !

  Russ Says:
  2016-10-16 19:18:03
Not quite as much going on as last issue, but still pretty good. The throwdown with Magneto and Toad is setting up nicely. It's a Roy Thomas trademark to have stories like this set up the main fight by having the chess pieces move into position over 2-3 (or more) issues.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't - This is one Marvel Misunderstanding I DO think actually works. Everyone knew about the villainous Black Knight, and had no reason to think he switched to the side of the angels. However, the Knight hadn't done anything to them other than fly around, and there's no law against that. So yeah, 40 lashes with an Arrowpoon line for Hawkeye for taking the unprovoked shot.

Bros gotta stick together - Speaking of the arrow slinger, looks like Hawkeye's more upset about Cap's departure than he realizes. He's just plain in denial about Hank being made the de facto leader of the Avengers.

Educating ants and uncles - Why are the ants speaking English? Rosetta Stone must be out of the Spanish.

Guy watchin' - Uhmmm, Jan, you were doing so well recently. Is it that time of the month for you again?

3 stars....hope the main event comes soon.

  Leander Malurt Says:

Not a really good ish, this one. Why bring back Ant-Man. I thought the whole thing about Goliath was that he was meant to be a reboot. And since when could Jan contact wasps!? The only good thing about it was the Avengers having to face the consequenses Hawkeye's rashness. 3 stars at the most.

  chademe Says:
  2017-11-23 21:07:13
I wonder how long it takes an ant to fly from Vegas to New York. Might have been faster just to take a plane.
